Sen. McConnell says he plans to serve his full term as leader despite questions about his health
He'll have to "win" majority/minority speaker again after 2024, but his term in office is until 2026.
Given the known falls and the fact he's using a wheelchair when he's not on camera, I'll go on record as guessing he won't make it until the end of 2026.
Maybe the Senate should cut a deal...Dianne and Mitch retire together?
We need a mandatory retirement age for the executive, the judicial and legislative branches.
Dunno about age, but competency for damned sure. Even before they let them into office. How about making them take the same civics test that new citizens have to take?
This is the guy who denied Obama's SCOTUS appointment for about 11 months in 2016 ("american voters should decide"), then allowed the confirmation of Barrett after the 2020 election had already begun. I am not able to have compassion for evil. It is going to take a long time for my country to recover from McConnell's manipulations. I hope my children can get it back on track.
Wait - I'm supposed to be compassionate? The party that pushed through and facilitated Trump, trying to thwart healthcare for the nation just to give "ONE...TERM...PRESIDENT" Obama an "L" over the graves of our fellow citizens - then bungled the response to a nationwide pandemic because they couldn't read with the anti-science conspirator crazies - and in fact gave them positions of leadership later to further ruin the nation...and Mitch was at the forefront of it? Sorry. I have a finite amount of compassion and he doesn't get any of it.

The party that pushed through and facilitated Trump, trying to thwart healthcare for the nation just to give "our top political priority is to make Obama a ONE...TERM...PRESIDENT" (not infrastructure, job, healthcare, the economy, education, etc - but just to get that new guy out) an L over the graves of our fellow citizens - then bungled the response to a nationwide pandemic because they couldn't deal with the anti-science conspirator crazies - and in fact gave them positions of leadership later to further ruin the nation...and Mitch was at the forefront of it? Apparently he came back several minutes later and resumed the press conference. When asked about the episode he said he was "fine".
Hopefully.
I appreciate this is the exact argument that the Right makes about Biden, but father time is undefeated. We as a nation need to find a way to get younger, capable leadership... but tribalism isn't likely to support that.
So you're saying his own party didn't want HIS wall? If that's the case, stop blaming Biden and the Dems for the immigration problem.
For the record, I'm all for closing the border and legal immigration. Trump ran in 2016 saying he would solve this. He didn't, and now look where we are. Blame Biden all you want, but your boy did almost nothing when he had the chance. 80 some miles of new wall for $15B. Why do you want to give him another 4 years to not deliver?
If it's a money issue, then maybe he shouldn't have given away over $50B in 2018 alone in tax cuts. That would have paid for the wall. But since the wall doesn't vote and it doesn't write checks to his PAC, he prioritized tax cuts for the wealthy over the wall you so dearly desire. He sold you out, but at least you know where his priorities are.
BTW... all of the materials were not scrapped. Texas took 1,300 sections, and others are being used for repairs. Canceling saved $2.6B.
Trump did attempt to negotiate with the dems over an immigration deal including a daca deal in return for limits on immigration and the wall....Ultimately both sides failed to get a deal done, because politics.
Trump had to resort to finding money in other places, like the military budget to fund the wall for openers. Both sides of Congress were opposed to his plans. The only support came from the minority Freedom Caucus. Remember that walls are racist ? Biden inherited ton's of fence material to keep the wall being built. Instead, he scrapped it.
What was one of the first things Biden did when taking office ? Reversed all of Trump's immigration policies, which were working just fine. That is how we got to where we are today.

How much are we talking about for the flights? What's the total cost? You always wanna throw crazy shit into the mix. How about the Trump 6-month extension of Secret Service protection for his kids that cost the taxpayers nearly $2M? Oh yeah, Meadows and Mnuchin got an extension too. You know Mnuchin...he's Jared's partner in getting $2B from the Saudis just after leaving office. Trump's a billionaire, isn't he? Why was there a special order to make you pay to protect his kids?
...
... Oh yeah...Before you get all "it's standard practice, look at Obama's kids" on me... it's standard for minor and college-aged kids, not adults. And definitely, not adults that live in $24M homes on islands with their own police force of 13 for the 40 houses surrounding the golf course.
Now go get that spendthrift Pete!!!
The whataboutism. OMG, the horror !
You act like Pete is flying to Monaco weekly...it's less than 20 trips with staff in tow. First, you complain he travels too much, then you complain he doesn't show up (see: Ohio trail derailment).
Jeezuz man, you're headed to a nervous breakdown.
I have no idea what you're smoking. I just posted links about Buttigieg because someone else brought him up, as in an oh by the way thing. The lawsuit is breaking news. I never said he flies too much. Anywhere. Show me.
I did complain about Biden not going to New Palestine. If I said anything about the train wreck and Mayor Pete it was at the most what took him so long. Of course I could be wrong about that and we will find out quick enough when someone digs up a quote of mine.
Oh and since we're discussing mayor Pete, how about his 2 month paternity leave when the world's supply chain was falling apart ?
Republicans fault secretary for being AWOL during shipping crisis, infrastructure talks
And while you are at it ...

Please tell me what is factually wrong with my reply. kurtster wrote:
I saw it and it is a serious misrepresentation of the chain of events as it ignores all the opposition from both sides of the aisle to implement Trump's border policies. So I gave it no credence and no reply until you bring it up again thinking that Christie has it all right and you can use it as a republican calling out Trump.
