Some people may not know what disco sucks was about. It was a kind of race riot. But instead of burning down black homes and stores they burned down black music businesses. Shortly afterward I noticed politicians (dozens of them, and you can still hear it today) saying that, while they don't know much about music, they sure want you know how much they love Bruce Springsteen.

Nile Rodgers Tells The Story of "Let's Dance"

In this telling Rodgers skips the beginning, which was that he had no recording deal because of disco sucks, and Bowie had no recording deal because he had always been marginal commercially. They met by chance at a club in NYC and decided to go to Switzerland. He also skipped the end of the story. After the song was mixed, Rogers said, thinking of disco sucks - "But David, don't you think it's too funky?" - and Bowie said, "Oh Nile, can there be such a thing?"

I don't think The Clash could've really been accused of playing "disco", though there probably were some people who thought so. Disco was pretty much over by the time this album came out (1980) - this was a foray into "rap" by The Clash - it even pre-dated Blondie's "Rapture". I'm surprised you hadn't heard this song before - this was a pretty big album, though not as good as the one which preceded it (IMO). It got a lot of airplay - particularly this song - at least in the NYC area. I believe this song is also on the RP playlist.
