i had to wrap my two patio chairs in foil yesterday.
i've got a visiting birdie that has decided that the arms of the chairs are the perfect toilet for it.
no nest above me/around the chairs, or anything. we will see if this does the trick.

Oh, yes.  I think it might have been this fellow who took a squirrel from our yard last year.  There were also a pair of Mississippi Kites hanging out around here until very recently.  They seem to have moved on.

The ospreys have returned to the concrete plant down the street.  At last!  They're about 12 days later than  last year, but they have taken up residence in the new, higher platform the plant owners built to keep them out of the smoke stack they've nested in for the last five seasons.  Months of cool sights to come!

There's a myth that osprey's can't let go once they've latched-on to a fish. But the truth is that they just don't want to let go. A fellow I once knew described how he watched an epic battle where an osprey was pulled under water by a big fish for a minute or so, managed to struggle to the surface for a quick breath before being pulled back under... rinse/repeat until the fish was tired-out and the osprey managed to drag it to the shore. Apparently that's just part of how they hunt.

Same myth is told about eagles, too.

That was awesome. The dive you mention to get the flounder was amazing. As E mentioned the foot in front of the other flying is very cool. It almost looks like he is surfing on the big fish. Thanks.
