Oddly enough, Pete Kleinow, who played pedal steel with The Flying Burrito Bros. and others, worked for Clokey doing clay-mation.

Sneeky Pete?
I did not know that.
Interesting.

Aw...frack, I remember getting up early on Sunday mornings, right after the jet airplane touched the finger of God, and the Bible stories were reenacted (I was raised in the South), and Gumby and Pokey would come on the screen.  Basically, they were the foundation for my soul and moral terpitude...

Interesting serendipity. The husband of the woman who voiced Gumby died just last week. He was a Vancouver stage actor.

...Clokey had mixed feelings about commercialization.

“I didn’t allow merchandising for seven years after it was on the air,” Clokey told the Tribune, “because I was very idealistic, and I didn’t want parents to think we were trying to exploit their children.”

They don't make them like that anymore. RIP, Art.

Gumby's Art Clokey

Art Clokey, the creator of "Gumby," looks over some of the collection of artwork and paraphernalia celebrating the 50th anniversary of the character at the Lynn House Gallery in Antioch, Calif., on Saturday, May 14, 2005.

=============

Art was a local where Justine and I went to college, and was interviewed on our college radio station several times. He always had time to share with students of any age.
