White lady gone to the Southern sea
Why do you appear so suddenly
We want to honor your family
With a little bitty boat set out on the sea
Iemanja, Iemanja, Iemanja
I dream of days spent in Salvador
With my little darling forever more
Taking a walk along the shore
Feels like heaven's an open door
Iemanja, Iemanja
If I were to offer a plain perfume
And if I were to honor the shining moon
As she sits so lonely upon the dune
Madre D'agna, See you soon
E'na lahia Iemanja, E'laiana Iemanja
E'Iemanja, E'Iemanja
I wanted to stay
I gotta go but I'm coming back one day (x3)

There were not many people there yet for KN or MG, as they were not big names.
The crowd was surprised at how good MG was.
Having listened to her album I made sure to get there in time!

First time I've heard her.
What fun music, kinda like Kristi MacColl on Tropical Brainstorm... Kinda
Still really up beat music, something we all need.
I know nothing about the controversy - but I do know the cover reminds me of Roxy Music

Melody Gardot is not her real name. Nobody (publicly) knows her real name. No journalist was able to check out her story. The story itself reads like an advertisement. Her background is completely unknown and nobody is able to confirm it.

Kaw is not a real name.

But I do know the sound that Melody makes is way better than the noise Kaw makes.

Maybe,  but she surely can sing regardless.
WOW! Pretty crazy bio!
don't matter none

the girl can sing
sparkles, a diamond ring
what more can you ax
her voice is max

best in years

I could go on.....
to another song
it would be the same

At least a 7 for the album cover.

Charlize Theron in Vogue.
I met Melody Gardot when she was in Brazil in the hills of Teresópolis in the middle of the Atlantic forest. Well, she created a lot of poetry and music with Pierre Aderne. After the album came out in Paris, Aderne says she changed some things in the verses, changed the name of the song and didn't include his name as a partner in the work. I love them both and I don't want to be in the middle of this turmoil. But it's happened to me that I wrote a poem partnership with another poet and it turned out to be a masterpiece and my name was subtracted, I didn't fight about it, what I can say is that it was so awesome beyond belief. In life we all lose something along the way. I love the stripped-down, sophisticated songs of Melody Gardot and Pierre Aderne, also the same class A level of music.

A demonstration of logic errors
1. Melody Gardot is not her real name. Nobody (publicly) knows her real name.
So how do you know this is not her real name?
Stated without evidence, dismissed without evidence
2. No journalist was able to check out her story.
Citation required
Put up or shut up... etc

I'm struggling to find any reason why I should care about her real name, history, blah blah blah.  The only thing that matters is the noise she makes.

I've been confirming unknown things for centuries, just ask Amelia Earhart.
Judging by his lack of response, one must assume that Kaw vishes just to be left alone.
And so he shall be.

Ah, so Melody's bitter, unsuccessful brother is posting on RP.
I'm guessing Kaw is not his real name.

Kaw's been slinging this sh*^ on other Melody Gardot song pages. You can find articles about Melody Gardot from all sorts reputable news organizations. Some of the stories include quotes from her neurologist about her condition after being hit by a car, and her recovery.

But Kaw back up his claims?
"Nobody (publicly) knows her real name. No journalist was able to check out her story. The story itself reads like an advertisement. Her background is completely unknown and nobody is able to confirm it."

Prove it, Kaw. Show us some links to back up your claims.

I love this, love the vibe, love everything about this gal, everything she sings; she's manifesting some truly beautiful, pure spirit; I dig it!

Having spent a number of years in the music business, Kaw's assessment wouldn't surprise me one bit.

Wikipedia says she is a Jersey girl that suffered a disabling accident and that singing was therapeutically helpful.

All I know for sure is that Ms. Gardot can seriously sing.

I certainly hope what I've read is not fictional.  It is a miraculous story of strength and courage. Just because she remains elusive doesn't  make her a liar.   Kaw wrote:

I don't believe this is an edited version from the album, but a different version altogether.

Definitely would not have picked her out for a Jersey girl. I know, i know, citizen of the world and all that
Talking Heads rhythms, love it
Sounds like a bit of a tribute to Astrid Getz at times.  I prefer her bluesier stuff but this is still very good.
Great for putting a little rhythm in my step on a Monday morning.
A piece of crap! (Que Merda eh essa?)  -> -1

thanks for the info... I was about to PM Bill that he had it spelled wrong... although Amazon shows it as "Yemanja" not iemanja... the cover art itself shows it as Iemanja (that's a capital i)

DAMN BUT DOES SHE HAVE SEX APPEAL
I like this one! Totally agree on cover art magnifier value. I think that the seductive cover belies Melody's life and passions; seeing her now it's hard to believe that she spent a year in a hospital after nearly being killed in a terrible accident. What a recovery!

Is your "Google Finger" broken or something?  Larger image.   Quite a likable tune, by the way.
I half expect to hear Paul Simon come in on the second verse.
Christ on a crutch we are going SLOW today !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The vocal affectations stay just this side of absurd. Nice vibe overall.
Enhances my mood...thankx RP

Absolutely love this track, although it is different from the two versions on the album itself.

Just got the album yesterday - HEAVEN!  What a voice!{#Sunny}
From 7 to 8!

Saw Melody Gardot on tour for this album.  It was absolutely wonderful.  She is a fantastic artist/performer.  Can't wait for her to come back around my neck of the woods.  If you like her music I highly recommend trying to get to one of her shows.
10 for the cover pic!!  {#Cowboy}
Beautiful! And the song is pretty good, too.
Superb !

Heck yes!
Why can't I give more than "10" to this???
