Soundtracks and character actors are two of the reasons I watch movies. Big names, meh.
Get off the babysitter Joel!
My favourite TD album would be 'Live at Logos'.
Transcendend...
OMG…40 years already!
i am floating
Time to dig out the Tangerine Dream LP's. Now where did I put them? Oh yeah, next to those of Jean Michel Jarre.
Mmmmmm. A young Rebecca de Mornay...  sigh.

GREAT!  I never heard this tune, prior to RP. The more I hear it, the more I like it! Thanx RP!

Does this make anybody here think of the Normandy SR-1?
Oh wow, FINALLY some Tangerine Dream! Awesome, thank you!

Huh ... I had this as an 8.  It has not aged as well as I would have guessed.  >> 7

Yes! {#Clap}{#Music} together with KRAFTWERK one of THE best bands from Germoney!
I had this cd, an outstanding soundtrack.  10 just for the memories.
Certainly, "the dream is always the same". But do not forget the major learning point from this movie....Sometimes you gotta say what the F*%K!
Having this song on the heels of 'Moving in Stereo' is definitely connecting with an awkward, teenage movie-goer in the 80's!

Sorcerer is such a great movie and a great TD soundtrack!!

Nice 80s teen boy coming of age segue from Fast Times to Risky Business. The cherry is popped!

Music from Thief (including a cut from Force Majeure, although somewhat retitled) and Legend are also standouts.
Tangerine Dream is Franke, Froese, Baumann. Everything after this line-up is crap.

TD churned out many, many soundtracks back in the day. The band wasn't exactly picky about the quality of the film. Personally, I think "Risky Business" stands the test of time; it's certainly better than "The Girl Next Door" (2004), which repeats the theme of "nice high school virgin meets sexpot with dangerous business associates."

And hey, this album also has Jeff Beck's "The Pump" and Muddy Waters' "Mannish Boy", so there's that.

And don't forget, Guido the Killer Pimp!
First time I hear TD on RP. I almost thought I was the only to love them... Now, I'm ready for Kraftwerk!

TD always takes me to Epcot.

not good
Tangerine Dream = fantastic
The Cars Moving In Stereo -> All Mixed Up segue not done = NOT fantastic
Sublime.  Space music par excellence.
This is such a great track. It makes me think I'm playing Mass Effect :)

Everybody in my church loves this music...

Cool...Coming after The Cars, makes me want to hear Kraftwerk, maybe "Farhen farhen farhen on the Autobahn..."

I'll take '80's movie soundtracks for $100.00 Alex. I took the el to work today. This song reminds me of a little Japanese Haiku I made up. See if you remember the Scene:

I am riding the el
I am recreating the scene from Risky Business
I am alone.

 "Looks like University of Illinois!"

I'm a proud alum.
The dream is always the same,,,,,,Joel, Just Get Off the Babysitter.......
The Dream! Yes!
yum yum
me go buy

wow, i bought the album for this and started my love of electronica, never thougt id hear it on "da radio".
that crash at the end sequenced with the arcing from the tracks of the tube.... if you know what I mean.
one of the best lines from any film .... "Ok, which one is the U-Boat Captain?"

Ahh. Good old-school electronica.
Love this song -great memories of seeing it in Risky Business.    "Get off the babysiter Joel!"

Kraftwerk (for one) was formed in the early 1970s.

You really didn't know? I'm not having a dig at you, honestly, I'm just surprised. Synthesisers were in active use back in the 70s by 'supergroups' such as ELP and Yes, and more obscure 'progressive' bands such as Gong and Amon Duul, and were seen as super-cool and trendy. They were also bloody expensive!

Cool, a little 80's movie soundtrack pair.  Rebecca and Phoebe, etched in our brains, and linked to these songs.

I'll give it a 9, just for the train scene.  (Edit: just read post below.  This might not have been the train scene song, but it still brings back memories, so I'm sticking with it.)

No. That was another track called "Love on a Real Train."  (Also a very good piece of music, IMNTBHO.)

...pre-1980s electronic music groups were the best kind!..certainly there are some consummately talented contemporary synthesists, but in the sixties and seventies the genre was exploding with innovation, true pioneers exploring fantastic new sonic frontiers with every release...
Fun to hear again out of the blue.  Thanks.

Great to hear Tangerine Dream on RP.
Play some "Force Majeure".

Got my hopes up thinking it was Eric Johnson/Tones but the guitar never kicked in.  What a woeful disappointment.  {#Cry}

Good grief! Are these guys still going? I used to listen to TD decades ago, usually after a stiff spliff or three, and at times the experience was almost transcendental. I thought they'd packed in ages ago, with contemporaries like Klaus Schulze. They used to be soooo 1970s/80s and well uncool, but I suppose with the new age of electronica and styles like Trance they could come into their own again. It just goes to show that what goes out of fashion in one decade comes back the next...

Not that this is a great track, mind, a bit anodyne to my mind, but I'd be interested to hear some more TD on RP.

TD is now basically just Edgar Froese & his son, with supporting players - not the TD of the '80s by any means.  Christopher Franke and Edgar had a major falling out, Chris now does soundtrack work (Babylon 5 being one of the most visible gigs he's had).  And contrary to 'packing it in', Klaus Schulze is still cranking out the same kind of long-form material he's been known for since he started out - check out https://www.klaus-schulze.com/

It is SOOOO nice, after about 30 years or so, to find out I was not alone in the world!

I still dig a few TD tracks every now and then. The OLD stuff, not so much the more new-agey stuff they did later on. Although this track is pretty nice, too.

One the few truly cool things in Tom Cruise's filmography is his bonking of Leonard Cohen's future squeeze on the L.
OMG... forgot about these guys. Had some of their stuff about a hundred and forty years ago.... cooool{#Cool}
How about something from "Optical Race?" One of their best albums, in my humble opinion.
Is that guy from Princeton still around?

Yeah... he's talking to a few of the girls.

Talking?

They're very good talkers.

Let's see if others might later jump in on this song-versus-music question; I've wanted to say something similar elsewhere, but never did. As for this "piece," I rather like the music -- it's very, well, musical -- but I see your point since I can't say as I'm hearing any song at all.
lester wrote:
I disagree with the implied logic here. Isn't "music" a broader field than "song"?
You are correct. It appears that in my passionate dislike for the song, I got a bit disjointed. My point however remains.
