Yeah, I usually see them near highways or interstates.  I guess I never noticed them until I moved around here.

I didn't realize that; I didn't see one until I moved down here - but that was over 20 years ago, so a lot has changed.  Whenever I drive by one it seems like they're always busy.

I remember once (mid-'80s?) going to a bar/restaurant that had similar seats and tables made from barrels - probably not with the leather(ette) upholstery though.  It was probably in Upstate NY -  the upper Hudson Valley or maybe Adirondack ski country.
It's still around here. Every once in a while there's an estate auction...
Yeah, it's probably still in a lot of places in NC too: barbecue joints, etc.  There's a chain of "Southern-themed" restaurant/gift shops in the Southeast called "Cracker Barrel" that probably has some of that stuff.

The upholstery's pretty sweet. *in my imagination it's leather but since it's Jacques Pinay, I have my doubts.

This pic looks like it's from that underground house somebody built out in the desert. It was in a CSI episode, maybe X-Files too.

I have always harbored a strong suspicion about those carpet-covered toilet seat lids. I don't know that I've ever actually sat on a closed toilet ON PURPOSE but on accident in the middle of the night and it wasn't just as I was just stepping out of the carpteted shower, if you catch my drift.

Yeah, the lid covers always seemed a little troubling to me too.  The pile of that carpet is so thick it looks like you'd practically need snowshoes to walk in there.
