Well I was wrong about them after the Allstar Game. We are SMOKINâ
I did not see this coming at all. I remember saying to you in this thread that the season was largely over. Now they've passed the Yankmes and are within striking distance of the Jays. I really wish they'd added another quality starter by the deadline, though.
Also shocking but over a long time span: Jarren Duran went from being a messed-up rookie who gave up after a fly ball went over his head (allowing an inside-the-park HR) to being a defensive whiz and all-round star whom the Sox wouldn't trade.
If you haven't checked it out, Gene, the Netflix documentary about Boston's '24 season is quite good.

Some years, some teams put on a magic show and make it to the playoffs with far less than a championship team. The Giants have some trophies to prove it. This year they played way above theirâwell I was going to say "pay grade," but they are paying some big salariesâstation, but they've come crashing back to earth and won't finish with a winning record or anything near it if they keep this up. 6 in a row now, with last night's being one of the worst games in the majors this year. Even Jung Hoo Lee was playing like a little leaguer â"I got it! You take it!"
They've let this kid Hayden Birdsong collapse so thoroughly, he might not pitch again unless the Giants do the stupid thing and keep him on the roster. He needs to be sent down and brought back to play with less desperate pressure on him.
This is my complaint about the Allstar Game. Tied up in the ninth, ok, go to the tenth with the usual setup runner on second. If nobody scores a run then do the home run thingy.

My problem with it is that it's nothing more than an opportunity for some of your best players to get injured in a game that doesn't matter.

Yeah, he is pretty good. Bloomdaddy had some huge shoes to fill after Mike Trivisonno, the previous owner of the afternoon drive passed after an almost 30 year run.
My clock radio is an ancient Magnavox I won as a radio prize back in the early 90's. Hard to tune, so it sits on WTAM which is a 50,000 watt flame thrower and always comes in, so I end up listening to whatever is on. It is about dead as one of the alarm switches is not working properly anymore and goes off every 24 hours no matter what. I'm open to any suggestions for a decent replacement that will fit on the headboard of my bed. It is the size of a small loaf of bread and that is about all the space I have.
Anyway, I hope you're enjoying this. I am. D Man, Dennis Manoloff, the host of this knows his stuff, too.
Listening at work, the program was about to start and I got called away and missed it completely!
It's my experience that all AM radios are crap these days, you can't tune them perfectly because they're digital and expect 1260 to be exactly 1260. Maybe I'm just imagining it. But for a replacement, I'd make it a hobby to cruise thrift stores looking for something with old tech, or get a fully moderne wifi speaker. I listen to Giants baseball for free on Alexa KNBR 680. They used to block the broadcasts but don't anymore.
Listening to Bloomdaddy. Not a big fan of talk radio but he's not throwing bombs like most.

This Wednesday July 16 at 7pm EDT, the Guardians flagship station, WTAM 1100 AM will be airing a 3 hour best of the voice of the Indians / Guardians, Tom Hamilton tribute in honor of his entry into Cooperstown as a Hall Of Fame broadcaster. It started out as a 2 hour show but there was so much it went to 3.
You can access it at WTAM.com or through IHeart.com.
Truly one of the greats. It should be pretty good. I listen to the games primarily on the radio so there should be a lot of, oh yeah, I remember that moments for me.
