A real dog. To Gene's point...I added RAM in an uber simple 5 min process. Microsoft's dominance with windows and office coupled with Apples higher prices made this a home "only" purchase. I purchased office for Mac (2008)...but it was still tough to go between them.
SIDEBAR: Today, I'm a big fan of not using MS. 365 is loaded with stuff, and Fabric and some of the new data management and utilization tools are great, but it's expensive and almost nobody uses most of the functionality. I've probably done 1,000 PowerPoint decks in my life, and I now find myself using Keynote. The "free" Apple apps are very good now, and the ability to provision remotely makes supporting the machines easier (IMO) than others.

Yup I have the last 2011 Mac Book Pro 17â ever made. That price for the Air beats the Apple refurb @ $759.00 for the same model. I would need 16 GB of memory and a minimum 500GB of storage and that yanks it up to $1k. I really want the Mac Pro 2019 since they are last of the upgradable computers.
I donât like what Apple has done by soldering everything onto the motherboard so you canât do any upgrades yourself.
Still thatâs a really great price.
I'm throwing this out there as a PSA... It's available on Walmart.com I use a MB Pro from the Dark Ages (2015). When I bought it, i put all the memory and speed I could into it. I spent just under $3k. In August, we purchased one of these MB Air machines for the house. M1, 8GB RAM, 256G storage. It's a really good machine. It's much quicker than mine, and the battery lasts forever, and the picture is nice. For anyone thinking of an upgrade...or one for a student...or a parent... $699 is awfully good.
I worked for Apple as an electrical engineer for 34 years - my business card said Electronic Alchemist which is where I got my Radio Paradise handle. When I retired not so long ago I had to buy my own gear for the first time. The M1 was my choice - a real standout product. I power a 5k monitor with it, and do video production, so it's no slouch. Yet so efficient it doesn't even have a fan!

She does get a killer discount... usually once a year.
