I will leave behind all of my clothes, I wore when I was with you All I need's my railroad boots, and my leather jacket As I say goodbye to Ruby's arms, although my heart is breaking I will steal away out through your blinds, for soon you will be waking.
The morning light has washed your face, and everything is turning blue now, Hold on to your pillow case there's nothing I can do now As I say goodbye to Ruby's arms, you'll find another soldier And I swear to God by Christmas-time There'll be someone else to hold you.
The only thing I'm taking is... the scarf off of your clothesline I'll hurry past your chest of drawers, and your broken window chimes As I say goodbye, I'll say goodbye, say goodbye to Ruby's arms.
I'll feel my way down the darkened hall, and out into the morning The hobos at the freightyards, have kept their fires burning Jesus Christ, this goddamn rain Will someone put me on a train? I'll never kiss your lips again... or break your heart... As i say goodbye, I'll say goodbye, say goodbye to Ruby's arms
Tom Waits - "Ruby's Arms"
I love that song...sooooo sad!
It sort of reminds me of this one
Leaving Training (Gillian Welch) The finest silver needle Shouldn't ever slide between When lovers stand as parting friends Gonna put myself on a leaving train And I won't come back again
I could wait 'til morning If it don't come down today A dime says I won't be satisfied Gonna put myself on a leaving train And I won't come back again
The words that go unspoken On the color of the sun And the coolin' air of the evening shade And the breathless hours on the sleeping plane And the last taillight on a leaving train And I won't come back again And I won't come back again
So, a guy writes a song about his penis and he's gay? I honestly don't give a rip one way or another, but....
Ahh, nevermind.
Pink thing what would straight folks say?
Personally this straight person doesn't care either, was just noticing the irony and obviously more than likely all of the band members are not gay, but again, I do not care either.

Here is a nice little XTC ditty off of their great album Oranges and Lemons in 1989, I remember hearing an interview about how they finally said screw the industry and released a song from the heart;
Anytime you rise, I'm here, And I'm crazy for you pink thing. You make me want to laugh, You make me want to cry, When I stroke your head I feel a hundred heartbeats high, Pink thing.
I want to take you out and show you round the world, Pink thing it'll be OK. If I could only wake you from your slumber curled, Pink thing what would straight folks say?
That man isn't fit to enter heaven. That man is a sinner, Ever burning in disgrace. Pink thing, spit in my face, I'd love you for it.
Anytime you call, I'll fall, Into madness for you pink thing. You make me want to live. You make me want to die. And when I stroke your head I feel a hundred heartbeats high, Pink thing.
I want to take you out and show you to the girls, Pink thing they're a whole new tribe. If you could only see the way the way the gingham swirls, Pink thing it's a whole new vibe.
That man isn't fit to be a father. That man is a sinner, 'Fore they cast me down to die, Pink thing, spit in my eye, I'd love you for it. Yes, I'd love you for it.
Anytime you rise, I'm here, And I'm crazy for you pink thing. You make me want to laugh, You make me want to cry, When I stroke your head I feel a hundred heartbeats high, Pink thing. Hundred heartbeats high, Pink thing. Hundred heartbeats high.
I want to introduce you, Take you to the brink thing. I want to introduce you, Tell me what you think thing. I want to introduce you, Make that missing link thing. Don't you think it's time you met some female pink thing?
You make me want to laugh, You make me want to cry, So why is it I'm happy when there's tears down in your eye?
Little pink thing.
I certainly don't think the whole band is Gay, nor do I care. They play good music that is all I care about, but obviously someone is and I was just making a note of it.
BTW, marriage and homosexuality have very little to with one another.
I read an interview in Musician back after the release of the album that song was written about his baby son!?
After all you put me through, you'd think I'd despise you. But in the end, I wanna thank you.
Cuz you made me that much stronger. After all of the stealing and cheating You probably think that I hold resentment for you But, uh uh, oh no, you're wrong 'Cause if it wasn't for all that you tried to do I wouldn't know .. just how capable I am to pull through So I wanna say thank you
'Cause it makes me that much stronger Makes me work a little bit harder Makes me that much wiser So thanks for making me a fighter
Made me learn a little bit faster Made my skin a little bit thicker Makes me that much smarter So thanks for making me a fighter
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh After all of the fights and the lies Yes you're wanting to harm me but that won't work anymore No more, uh uh, it's over 'Cause if it wasn't for all of your torture I wouldn't know how .. to be this way now, I'll never back down So I wanna say thank you
'Cause it makes me that much stronger Makes me work a little bit harder Makes me that much wiser So thanks for making me a fighter
Made me learn a little bit faster Made my skin a little bit thicker It makes me that much smarter So thanks for making me a fighter
How could this man I thought I knew Turn out to be unjust, So cruel? Could only see the good in you Pretended .. not to see the truth You tried to hide your lies, Disguise yourself Through .. living in denial But in the end you'll see YOU-WONT-STOP-ME!!
I am a fighter I'm a I ain't gonna stop There is no turning back I've had enough
Makes me that much stronger Makes me work a little bit harder Makes me that much wiser So thanks for making me a fighter
Made me learn a little bit faster Made my skin a little bit thicker Makes me that much smarter So thanks for making me a fighter

These songs helped me a lot during my last break up. Coincidentally, they both have "Let Go" in the title.
Just Let Go - Fischerspooner Let Go - Frou Frou. My favorite part of that song: "it's alright 'cause there's beauty in the breakdown,"which is so true.
Also, the whole Garbage album, Bleed Like Me
1. Bad Boyfriend 2. Run Baby Run 3. Right Between the Eyes 4. Why Do You Love Me 5. Bleed Like Me 6. Metal Heart 7. Sex Is Not the Enemy 8. It's All Over But the Crying 9. Boys Wanna Fight 10. Why Don't You Come Over 11. Happy Home
Dylan - 'Just Like A Woman' Dylan - 'It 'Aint Me Babe'
And....
Flash Company
First I loved William and then I loved John But now I love Thomas he's a clever young man With his white coat and stocking and his high ankle shoe He wears a velvet jacket like a flash lad he goes
Fiddling and dancing was all his delight But keeping flash company has ruined him quite Has ruined him quite and a great many more If it hadn't have been flash company he'd never have been so poor
Take this yellow handkerchief in remembrance of me And wear it around your neck when in flash company Dry up your briny tears and don't look so sad There's plenty more flash girls all around to be had
Rocks shall run to water and the sea shall run dry If I should prove false to the lad that loves I The sweetest strawberries shall grow in the sea If I should prove false to the one that loves me
First I loved William and then I loved John But now I love Thomas he's a clever young man With his white coat and stocking and his high ankle shoe He wears a velvet jacket like a flash lad he goes
