If you'd like any choice of what you or your family can put into their mouths, you had better speak up now or be prepared to eat whatever GMO frankenfood ConAgra, Monsanto, ADM and a crooked congress feed you.
Just sayin.
Yeah, well...
Since it's a big election year, that's kinda obvious, don't you think? As someone once said "everybody complains about the weather, but nobody does anything about it." Although it has proved mighty hard to really change the weather, that same sentiment is a poor excuse when it comes to choosing our elected officials. Unlike the weather, we CAN keep our government honest. All that is required is the desire to do it.

so, what is it that we can do about this? I looked around on the site and had trouble with linkys etc.
Steve BemisMore than ever S510 represents a major threat to the local food movement, states' autonomy to regulate food, and the country's ability to become self-sufficient in food production.
On August 12 the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee released the manager's package for S510", a revised version of the "FDA Food Safety Modernization Act that is 77 pages longer than the version of S510 that passed out of the HELP Committee last November.
Whereas the House food safety bill, HR 2749, passed out of the full House a month and a half after being voted out of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, S510 had stalled for nearly ten months. Passage of the revised version into law will enable FDA potentially to regulate all farms marketing food products direct to consumers even if the farms engage only in intrastate commerce.

I strongly encourage everyone who is mobile and remotely interested in the future of food on this planet, to head out to their local Farmer's Market (the season will be ending in a matter of weeks for most of them) and chatting up your local farmers. What's important to them, what's hurting them?
A couple phonecalls to your politicians could really make a difference.
