Looking at the timeline involved regarding those sent to Cecot, they would not have been sent there if Maduro did not refuse to accept the return of deported Venezuelan citizens. Maduro is the one who caused these deportees to end up at Cecot. They had to go somewhere and that is where they were sent because El Salvador was the only place willing to take them at the time as best as I can detect. We had to pay El Salvador to take them.
Within a week, Maduro relented and began to accept the return of its deported citizens, most likely as a result of them being sent to Cecot. What these deportees suffered at Cecot is terrible, but Maduro turned them into political pawns for his own ends and it backfired on him.
I am in no way condoning the treatment of those sent to Cecot. It is very unfortunate as it was avoidable. Something drastic had to be done to get Maduro's attention and cooperation. I guess that this is what it took.
As a reminder, due process for non citizens in immigration courts is different from US trial courts and US citizens. If you or anyone else wants to go down that rabbit hole regarding due process for non citizens, I am prepared.
You are saying torture of people is acceptable if it applies political pressure on another country. Placing the blame on Venezuela but completely ignoring that the US could have prevented the torture from happening in the first place. Your something drastic that "had to be done" was done for the US and could have been stopped. That is condoning their treatment in spite of your words.
