Trump Expected To Use Shooting To Call For Peace, Civility & Tolerance

•THE TRANSFORMATIVE nature of being millimetres from death is expected to lead Donald Trump to a soul-searching examination of where the US is as a nation, and his unifying role in healing the fractious divide.

•“I just can’t see why a man with a history of praising the brutal acts of dictators, who engages in racist dog whistles with his supporters and constantly dehumanises those who oppose him and calls for violence against them, would ever use an incident like this to further inflame tensions,” offered one political commentator on US TV.

•“As always Donald preaches a message of peace, civility and tolerance, and if anything this famously unpetty individual will use this assassination attempt to call for his supporters to be totally chill,” said one member of Trump’s campaign while reading up on the 1933 burning of the Reichstag.....................

Jonah Goldberg has been proven prophetic after making these comments Monday about a changed Trump:

“I predicted Donald Trump’s presidency would end badly because character is destiny,” he said. “I’ve been saying how expecting Donald Trump to pivot to being presidential is like Waiting for Godot. Just not going to happen. But I want to give due credit to Scott’s point that getting shot at can change a person. So we’ll see. My one source of skepticism – other than the fact that 78-year-olds, even when they go through something dramatic don’t tend to change their fundamental natures too much. But it’s possible.

“I don’t know that he knows how. I don’t know that he knows the language of being a conciliator for more than five minutes. And the idea that he is going to not go back to calling his opponents vermin and Marxists and fascists and communists and all that kind of stuff – that’s the language he’s learned how to speak in. And I don’t know that can get a Berlitz phrasebook and get up to speed on how to be like a middle-of-the-road guy.”

Would be noticeably easier to list what isn't contrived about everything he's ever touched.

I think you're failing to grasp that this is truly genuine Trump.  Nothing says you have to like it.

Manhandling the American flag was a perfect representation of this dichotomy. Half the country likely saw it as a fitting metaphor for his presidency writ large: an assault on our most cherished values. He took what was not his, robbed it of all its virtue – and then presumably moved on to his next conquest.

But to the rest, those who support Trump, it was the quintessential way of showing his unapologetic patriotism. It was honest and earnest. It wasn’t fancy or philosophical. It wasn’t intellectual or complicated. Hugging the flag is nothing if not literal. It was the way Trump approached his entire presidency, much to their great satisfaction.

I guess that you have never been to a Kid Rock concert.

Saw him in '95 the next day after Woodstock was over, been a fan since.

The original lineup.  The highlight of the show was a jam where KR broke out a bottle of Jack and went around to every bandmate and shared a chug from the jug with each and everyone of them, playing their instruments while they enjoyed their slugs.  Even did some scratching on the turntable.  This went on until the bottle was empty.

The man is a consummate musician regardless of how you may feel about him.
